Empowering Women Through eLearning –
A Project for UN Women
The Challenge
Sexual harassment in public spaces and transportation remains a critical issue worldwide. UN Women identified the need for an interactive eLearning course to educate and empower women, equipping them with tools to recognize, address, and combat harassment effectively. The course needed to be accessible, engaging, and culturally sensitive while aligning with the United Nations’ global mission for gender equality.
The Solution
By leveraging proven instructional design principles and cutting-edge visual design aligned with the United Nations’ brand guidelines, I developed a magazine-style eLearning course that captured attention and delivered impactful learning experiences. The design fostered exploration and deep engagement, particularly through emotionally resonant testimonials. Assessment activities encouraged high-order thinking skills such as analysis, reflection, problem-solving, and synthesis.
Approach
I managed the project end-to-end, ensuring a seamless process and impactful outcomes. Key highlights of my approach included:
1. Comprehensive Needs Analysis
• Conducted stakeholder interviews to define goals
• Researched the target audience to ensure relevance and relatability
• Reviewed existing content on sexual harassment and gender-based violence
2. Storyboarding and Visual Design
• Revised and adapted storyboards to ensure alignment with instructional objectives
• Designed the course in an engaging magazine-style format, incorporating multimedia elements such as videos, animations, and testimonials
• Maintained adherence to UN branding and visual design principles
3. Interactive Features
• Integrated activities to explore laws, debunk myths, and share real-life testimonials
• Included region-specific examples for greater contextual relevance
4. Development and Technology
• Used Articulate Storyline 3 for development, ensuring fast turnaround without compromising quality
